Pat and Walt left to visit friends and we were on our own.
First stop...the Studebaker Museum in South Bend. My grandfather, Earnest, was a partner in a Studebaker dealership in the early days. Both my family and Bob's owed several "Studies" (pronounced stoodies). My dad flew "back East" on a TWA constellation to pick up a 1953 model
--very sleek and ahead of it's time. Dad soon customized it by painting it black and taking off the chrome. Bob's dad customized his by putting a fog light on the center "bullet". Later, we took US 20 across northern Indiana through the Amish country. Amish families from Pennsylvania first arrived in this region in the 1840s and still live without modern conveniences. We stopped for cheese at the Deutsch Kase Hause and shopped in Shipshewana. Below is our RV parked alongside the horse-and-buggies.
Tonight, we're in Wapakoneta, Ohio on our way to visit our good friends the Gastons.
